[Laser] Tag! You're It!

As most of you remember, it was Bird's 8th birthday on the 17th.  This past weekend we had her party with her friends.  She decided to do a Laser Tag party at the local Shadowland.  She has never done laser tag and has been dying to try it out and her birthday was the perfect time to go!

The only problem is how the heck was I going to manage to do a Laser Tag Party theme for a girl?!?  Everything under the sun seemed to be geared towards boys!  I finally decided to just figure out the cards for now and then work my way figuring out ideas!

I searched Vista Print and found these awesome invitations! Even better, they were purple, pink, & blue!  Very Girly!!

Even better, they had a matching envelope and thank you cards, AND these cool stickers

Once I had these, I new what the party favors were going to be: Pink, Purple, & Blue!  Amazon.com is the best site to find hundreds of random items, let me just tell you!

I found the purple gable boxes, pink & blue swirl pops, the cupcake liners & stand, the fun shutter glasses, & the glow in the dark bracelets and rings.

The idea was to use the glow in the dark items b/c they were playing in the dark & then add the cool glasses for fun & use the pink, purple, and blue theme!

I decided to add an individualized cupcake for each one of the party boxes using the cupcake liners and a plastic party bag. (Last year, they each got a giant cookie).  These types of favor boxes seem to be a bigger hit than all those crap filled ones I used to do. Plus, they are easier to put together!

In my opinion, cupcakes are so much easier than cake for birthday parties.  This is the second year, I decided to make our own cupcakes instead of buying a store bought cake.  Bird requested Red Velvet, so of course I obliged, and then made chocolate and yellow cake as well.  Since it's hard to do a "theme" with cupcakes I just dyed the frosting (cream cheese for the red velvet and vanilla for the others).
All-in-all it was a success and the kids loved every moment of it!  Bird had a blast (even though she was quite scared at first)!

30 Before 30

Okay, here's the deal, I have have addressing myself as a 20-something because quite frankly I have a hard time admitting that I am 20-something close to 30.  It's time to come clean......

I am 28.
I will be turning 29 on July 30th, 2013.
I have 1 more year of my "roaring" 20's.

I have done a lot in my 20's. I was married (at 19 but married nonetheless), had a daughter, divorced, married again, inherited another daughter and moved quite a few times too.  I have led a pretty exciting life I think.

But I want to accomplish more.  I have a little over a year until I turn 30 and I am freaking out.  So, to battle this freak out I am doing the 30 Before 30 Challenge!

Here's my list:
  1. Write a book (not necessarily have it published)
  2. Visit L.A.
  3. Place my hands in the same cement that Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell had done years before
  4. Learn Portuguese (conversational at the very least)
  5. Find a job that I love in the industry that I want to be a part of
  6. Make a point to go to happy hour at least once per month
  7. Get to my goal size
  8. Ride a motorcycle
  9. Read all the best British classics
  10. Read all the best American classics
  11. Go to a concert...preferably Coachella (just because I want to wear daisy dukes & flowers in my hair)
  12. Sew my own dresses
  13. Go Snowboarding
  14. Learn Yoga...like legit and not on the Wii
  15. Take Pole Dancing Lessons
  16. Karaoke...can you believe I have never done this? (probably b/c my singing sucks!)
  17. Take a British Literature course
  18. Revisit New York City
  19. See a Broadway Show
  20. Go to the Little League World Series (to watch of course!)
  21. Go hiking
  22. Read the bible cover-to-cover
  23. Understand what I read in the bible cover-to-cover
  24. Pay off all credit cards so all I have is the house debt
  25. Grow a fruit & vegetable garden
  26. Get another tattoo
  27. Start a book club
  28. Leave a $100 tip on a $20 dollar bill for a waiter/waitress who is deserving
  29. Cut out sugar (or at least limit it to one item per day)
  30. Learn to be happy with the choices I have made and forgive myself for the choices I have not
Believe it or not a lot of these are difficult for me. Mostly because I am a worrier & I am terrified of flying...sigh...OK, OK, I am a HUUUUUGGGGEEE wimp.

Anyone else out there doing this challenge or like me??  I need some encouragement.

Sunday Spotlight - Sartorial Junkee

Name: Deeyah Petinglay

Blog: Sartorial Junkee

Type of Blog: Fashion, Lifestyle, Food

What is your favorite reason to be a blogger?
Hmm, well actually I never thought I'd end up being a blogger. This is actually the first time I tried blogging and I just learned to love it. Maybe my fave reason is that I could share my knowledge and love for fashion to everyone else.

What can we expect from Sartorial Junkee in the next coming months?
I expect more followers? LOL and of course more ideas to come up with and I really wanted to expand my blog not just in fashion but maybe in food and travel? I don't know, I'm hoping that this coming months I'd be able to achieve that.

Who are your Fashion/Makeup Icons?
I do have a lot, but I guess to top that all I have always adored Marc Jacobs, Chanel and Balenciaga. Though I find Marilyn Monroe very iconic when it comes to beauty and grace. For makeup, I really look up to Michelle Phan, I'm pretty much sure you've hear of her.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you be and why?
Always wanted to live in Paris, there's something about the ambiance and the aura of being there, I've only went there once when I was a kid but I'd love to go back there and spend the rest of my life there till I die. LOL

What other blogs would you like to see spotlighted on Nicole’s Revolution?
There are a lot like Fashionholic' sparkle, Afflatus in New York, blondhaus and alot more. These are also starting blogs like me and would surely love to get featured in Nicole's Revolution :D

Thank you to Sartorial Junkee for her interview!

Would you like to be spotlighted?  Fill this form out!

I Do THIS for Fun!

Photo Creds to: @yellowcamisole
You all know how much I love makeup.  I love the ability to create a work of art and the best thing about it is every canvas is different.  Twice this month I had the opportunity to teach my first makeup seminars to some weary parents about makeup on their dancer.  New dancer moms, with the fabulous Shining Stars School of Performing Arts, needed a little help with makeup application for their dancer.  I volunteered my services and provided them with a class on how to apply makeup on their young dancer in a way that doesn't make them look too mature for their age but magnifies their natural beauty on stage.

I decided to share this information with you!  Here is what my makeup kit usually has!

FACE

Primer - Face primer is used to "prime" the skin prior to putting on foundation, powder, and/or other cosmetics.  It serves two main purposes (1) to achieve a smooth and even completion and (2) enables the makeup to stay on for an extended amount of time for a flawless and long-lasting look

Which one's to use & why:

  • Clear (Most will use clear)
  • Green (If you have a lot of Redness)
  • Lavender (If you have a lot of Yellowish undertones)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, Ulta's Matte Primer! But the past couple of times I went, they were out!! I must order it from the website.  It is seriously fab!

Liquid Foundation - Liquid foundation stays longer and provides better coverage.
  • Maybelline FitME Foundation I have used for a while now and is the brand I recommend. I love the coverage and how well it keeps my natural features too. I have a lot of freckles, and while the foundation offers coverage for my imperfections, it still lets my angel kisses shine.
Powder Foundation - Powder foundation will set your liquid foundation and make it stay put.  It will still smear a little but not as much if you just had the liquid foundation on.

Blush - Blush will brighten up the face and not make you look flushed and washed out.
  • For light skin tones use a light peachy/pink blush
  • For medium skin tones use a rosy pink/deep peach (medium looking pinks)
  • For dark skin tones use a rose/deep orange color
Bronzer - Bronzer is used to help contour the face and provide a more symmetrical and natural look.  To choose the correct shade chose a few shades darker than your foundation.

You can totally get away with using eyeshadows for this too!

EYES

Primer - For the same reasons as the face primer (see above)

Urban Decay and Too Faced are some of my favorite primers, but I also love using the Jumbo Cream Eye Pencils by NYX. They work just as great and some shadows seem to pop out even better than using the different mono colored primers. PLUS THEY ARE WAYYYYY CHEAPER TO USE!

Shadow - Depending on your eye color you will want to choose different shades.
  • For green/hazel eyes use plum, burgundy and reddish brown shadows
  • For brown/dark brown eyes use taupey purples
  • For blue eyes use warm orangey copper-based shades
Eye Liner - There are three different types of eye liner, gel, liquid, and pencil
  • For deep dramatic eyes, use liquid
  • For for sultury and softer looking eyes, use gel
  • For even softer looking eyes and less dramatic, use pencil
Mascara - There are so many mascaras out there that you can use to enhance your lashes.  Remember to replace it the moment it becomes clumpy, which is usually around the sixth month mark

LIPS - Lipstick should be treated like blush. Depending on your skin tone your lipstick will be different.
  • For light skin tones choose soft pinks or neutrals
  • For medium skin tones mid tones or reddish berry colors
  • For dark skin tones use deep plum colors
Brushes - I recommend using brushes over the sponge tipped applicators.  They are easier to use and help blend the colors much better.  I use Crown Brush (they are fabulous and I believe they are the makers of a high-end makeup company's brushes).  You can also use brushes from Studio Tools (available via target) and ULTA has this little kit that is pretty decent as well.

So what does your makeup kit look like?

WeightNot Wednesday - Coming Soon

I still get a great deal of emails and responses about the WeightNot Program and it was my understanding that the program has changed quite a bit since I had did it.  When I finished the program I was okay with the weight I had lost, although in the back of my mind I wanted to loose more.

So, I decided to check in to the WeightNot program again and have decided that I want to kick this last 20 lbs that I want to loose.  I have purchased the 67 day program and am currently waiting for the materials to come in.  Once the package is received I will be doing WeightNot Wednesday.

What is WeightNot Wednesday you ask?  Well, I will be going over the program with readers and giving an update on my weekly progress.  I encourage anyone that is on the program now to join in the conversation with me OR if you are doing a different weight loss program I want to know how you are doing.

Once I have the package with all the materials I will go over what the contents are, how the program works, the difference from before and most importantly....the COST!!

Here's too finally finishing off that last bit of weight for good!

The Most Special Day of the Year

Good morning revolutioniers! There is no Sunday Spotlight today because today is the Most Special Day of the Year. February 17th comes once a year and every year it is bittersweet for me!

I rarely give you guys a complete insight of my personal life because I don't always like talking about it.  But today, I will offer you all a little history of my life.

This is Kaileigh (pronounce Khi-lee) a.k.a. Bird

Today is her Birthday.
Dancing w/the Redskinettes!

A Fashionista at a young age!
Eight years ago, I gave birth to this amazingly sweet and special little girl, but while she was healthy, something happened where I was not.  I am lucky to be alive today.  After 13 hours of labor Bird was delivered by C-Section and shortly after, I began fighting for my life.  No one truly knows what happened that day and why I began hemorrhaging but after 5 1/2 hours of surgery, 3 blood transfusions, 3 platelet transfusions, and having to be revived twice; at 20 years old I would no longer be able to bear another child of my own.

I am lucky.

I am lucky to be alive.
I am lucky to have a healthy little girl.
I am lucky that my little girl is truly my best friend.
I am lucky to have inherited another daughter.
I am lucky to have found a man (after my divorce) to love and care for my daughter as his own.

It has been eight years since this tragedy in my life.  Eight years and I still don't talk about it much.  Eight years and I still am angry, sad, and grateful at the same time.

I'm not sure how much longer it will take for me to accept that this has happened to me but I do know that although this was not the path I would have chosen, God has truly blessed me with the most amazing gift that is far greater than anything else I could have asked him for.

If me being able to have another child means I would have to give up the one child I have now, I'd rather be who I am now.  No gift will ever be greater than my Bird.

Happy Birthday my darling. Be awesome, be proud, be beautiful inside, and most of all be you. Fly high!

Fashion Week - Last Day of Runway With Ralph Lauren & Calvin Klein

We did it! We made it to the end of New York Fashion Week and let me tell yah...I'm exhausted! Ralph Lauren & Calvin Klein wrapped up the week and did not disappoint.  I loved the Ralph Lauren collection, which was filled with Paris love from the fur to the barrettes.  The whole collection makes me want to go sit and sip coffee outside at a cafe with a biscotti in one hand and a good book on my Kindle!

The Best of Ralph Lauren Fall 2013

Calvin Klein's collection was just as fabulous too! I loved the different textures and the sexy use of black.  You can never go wrong with black. Such a classic color!

And there we have the recap of the best of the best from Fall 2013 Fashion Week Collections! There are so many great ideas and designs that I can't wait for the Fall to grace us once again!

Fashion Week - Best of Wednesday's Runway

Happy Valentine's Day my loves! It's time to recap yesterday's runway shows! Can I just say that there was so much goodness on the runway that I was overwhelmed!! My favorite had to be Anna Sui, simply because she rocked the 1960's mod designs! I LOVE!

The Best of Anna Sui Fall 2013

Then there was the J. Mendel collection! So classy, elegant, and sexy. Slitted dresses, long gowns, and modest necklines graced the runway. As always, Mendel's collections are stunning!

Rachel Zoe's collection was another great runway show as well. The collection consisted of many different textures and patterns that all worked really well with each other. It was a sexy and sleek collection that I believe is very wearable.

Bibhu Mohapatra's collection was also another nice collection. Mixing different patterns and keeping the skirt and dress lengths modest; the collection was too very wearable and fashion forward.

The Best of Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2013

Michael Kors scared me at first. Known for his talented designs, I was nervous when I saw the the first few dresses. A couple of those dresses had puffed up tails that, when looking from behind, reminded me of a saggy ass; or perhaps a bag full of puppies fighting in a sack. It was horrid. And I hate to be so negative, but those dresses were ghastly! But then, the models began to make their way out on the runway with the design and colors I knew Michael Kors was capable of. Ahhh, confidence restored! It's a heavenly feeling!

The Best of Michael Kors Fall 2013

Michelle Smith and Nanette Lepore both had similar collections with their ideas of adding shimmery materials that offered and "out of this world" look to each of the designs. Lepore was the first to show off this awesome material with many of the accessories added to her designs. I have to admit I was so intrigued with the accessories that I actually had to watch the show again to take a look at the actual designs. Although distracted I found that Lepore's designs were extremely wearable!

Michelle Smith's Milly collection also used the same type of material in her designs but incorporated more in to the actual clothes than the accessories and it worked for her too!

I loved the looks! What is your opinion of the Michel Kors collection?
