Tutorial Tuesday - For Your Brown Eyes!

Today's tutorial is featuring my baby sister, who is gorgeous (in my opinion), but suffers from major redness on her cheeks, and doesn't really like to do her makeup as much as I do. Here is her before:

For Her Skin
  1. I prepped her skin with my Ulta Matte Primer
  2. With my Cover Girl Green Corrector Stick I covered her cheeks and other redness prone areas.  The green correcter stick counteracts with the redness so that it hides it underneath the foundation.
  3. Using a {wet} makeup sponge, I patted  (not smeared) her face with Maybelline FitMe Foundation in 240
  4. Using a loose translucent powder, and a big powder brush, I lightly covered her face to set the liquid foundation

For Her Eyes
  1. I prepped her eyes with Urban Decay's Primer Potion
  2. Using my flat eyeshadow brush I dabbed UD's Bordello in the corners of each eye and bring it 1/3 of the way towards the outer corner of her eye on her lash line
  3. Using my eyeshadow brush I pressed UD's Kush in the middle of her eyes and on the middle bottom of her lash line (so that it mirrors the top)
  4. Using my round {pencil} crease brush I swirled UD's Rockstar in the outer corner of her eyes and working my way in to the crease of her lid.
  5. Using my fluffy crease brush I continued to blend Rockstar to fade the color all the way to the brow bone
  6. Using my angled blender brush I brushed UD's Bordello to blend all the colors to prevent any harsh lines
  7. Using my MAC Eye Kohl liner in Smolder I lined her upper & lower lash lines
  8. Using my Marbella Permanent Eyeliner pen in Black I lined her upper lid with wings on each end
  9. I topped her off with two applications of blinc mascara in Black

Finishing the Face
Cheeks
  • I used Mary Kay creme blush in Sheer Bliss and Mark powder blush in Charmed
Lips
  • I lined her lips with Mac lip pencil in Spice
  • I topped her lips off with Mac lipstick and lipglass in Viva Glam V
Contour/Highlight
  • Contoured with E.L.F. bronzer in Warm Tan
  • Highlighted with Benefit High Beam
Thank you to my awesome sister for letting me play makeover!!

Tutorial Tuesday - Easy Breezy "Collared" Girl (or Boy if you want)

Like the pun??  Haha! Okay, today's tutorial is so freakin' easy, you can seriously do it on your lunch break, or while you pop a pizza in the oven!  SO EASY!!

What you need:

  • Large fun beads, or anything that will inspire your collar
  • A sewing needle
  • Thread to match the fabric of your collar
  • A shirt with a collar (obviously!)

  1. Thread your needle; doubling it up and triple knotting the bottom (or double if you choose thicker thread)
  2. Place the bead at the corner of the collar and start sewing from underneath your collar through the bead and back through again; slightly underneath the bead (to hid the thread)
  3. Follow the same pattern three times, keeping the thread tight
  4. Tie it off & you are DONE!  That's right DONE!!
I seriously want to do this to so many of my collars!

Another Tutorial Tuesday is upon us.  Here's another makeup tutorial I had done with my collaboration channel a while back.

Tutorial Tuesday - DIY Makeup Palette

For this week's Tutorial Tuesday I am going to show you how to make your own makeup palette!  Never again will you ever have to purchase one from Z-Palette (although I love them!) or any other palettes (ahem MAC's) again!

What you'll need:

  • Glue Gun w/sticks
  • A book (I found this at the dollar store!)
  • Foam board (also at the dollar store.  P.S. much easier to work with than the Elmer's boards)
  • Duct Tape or Paper & Mod Podge (I used duct tape) - I found sheets at Michael's but, I found the roll to be less expensive and easier to use!
  • Magnetic Sheets
  • Ruler
  • Pen, Pencil, or Marker (whichever you prefer to use)
  • Clear scrapbook sheet
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Utility Knife
  • Scissors (if you want to work w/them)

Using your X-Acto knife you are going to cut the pages out of the book.  I cut the binding and pulled out the majority of the pages and then I cut the "glued" pages out afterwards.  This is what it looks like when it's done:

I then measured the size of the book to determine how big to cut the foam board. I took off one centimeter for each edge for it to open and close nicely.

Using my X-Acto knife I cut the foam board out and then measured one inch around the edges (this is going to make my window).  The awesome thing about the Dollar Store foam board it cuts much nicer than the Elmer's one; not sure of why that is but, from now on I am getting all crafting foam board from them!

Again, I am using my X-Acto knife to cut out the box in the middle to make the window section of my palette.

I put that aside and begin the "cutting out" section of the book.  I measure the book with one inch one centimeter and mark the lines.

Using my utility knife (the book is a lot harder to cut through) I cut out the window of the book.

The last thing to "cut" is the magnetic sheet.  I measure the back page of the book to determine how big to cut the sheet.  Depending on the size of your book will determine the size of your sheet.

Using my glue gun I glue the magnetic paper to the back of the book.

Now it is time to start Duct Tapin'!  I used two Zebra print Duct Tape sheets that I got from Michael's to tape on the back. Like I said earlier....the rolls are much easier to use...For some reason I thought this would be easier...WRONG. Don't deviate from what you know works!

I cut the Duct tape paper so that it hung over the edge of the book (that way I can fold them over) and cut a smaller hold in the middle window so I could also have that edge fold over as well. Of course I used the X-Acto knife to make the little awkward slits at the corners for a nice clean and flush fold.

I didn't worry about complete covering the inside because I still had the clear scrapbook sheet to cut and place there. **I did it kind of backwards, and should have taped from the inside of the book to the outside and put the sheet on top, but I didn't...oh well, it still looks fine.  It just would have given me about two centimeters of height for the make up.  It still fits so I didn't worry too much about it.

I cut the sheet to be slightly smaller than the book and hot glue the edges.

While that is drying I duct tape the foam board. I choose to do contrasting colors to make it more "fun" and simply because I don't like boring...

By then the glue should be dry from the clear plastic so it is time to glue the foam board to the book.

And there you have it, you are done.  I think I might add a button to the top and use a hair band as a clasp to help keep it closed a little better.

All in all I think it turned out rather wonderful!

Do you have a DIY request? or have you made your own palette before? I want to see!  Leave me some L.O.V.E.!

Thanks to Shabby Kitteh for this D.I.Y. inspiration!

Tutorial Tuesday - It's Football SEASON!!

Hi everyone!  I'm throwing it back to another tutorial I did last year for the collaborative channel I was a part of last year.  With football season kicking off I thought how appropriate it would be to have a football makeup tutorial for you all this week.

As I mentioned here, I am a DIE HARD Redskins FAN!!!  So, that is what you get this week!  A Redskins inspired makeup tutorial! Enjoy!

Tutorial Tuesday - Packing Makeup for Vacation

So today's Tutorial, isn't really a tutorial.  It's more how I pack my makeup for my long trip but you may be able to take some of my ideas and use it for your next trip!

This is all I use for all of my make up needs.

Here is all the makeup I take with me:

  • Acne treatment cream
  • Medicated eye drops for itch relief
  • Ulta Face Primer
  • Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion
  • Maybeline Fit Me Foundation
  • Colorscience Face Powder
  • Benefit Boi-ng
  • Benfit Hoola
  • E.L.F. Shimmery Bronzer
  • Makeup Sponge
  • Maybeline Blush
  • Mary K Blush
  • Laura Geller Blush
  • MARK Blush
  • Sephora Gel Liner
  • E.L.F. liquid eyeliner
  • Bare Esscentuals Brow Filler
  • MAC Kohl Pencil
  • Marbella Permanent Eye Liner Pen
  • Blinc Mascara
  • Sephora Anniversary Palette - The best thing to do when travel is bring a large palette like this. That way you are not having to bring a lot of little palettes with you.

I use the smaller makeup travel bag to place all the little items in.

I use the large makeup bag to hold the large palette just in case it gets tossed around.

Are you all wondering where my lipsticks are?!?!?  This is how I pack those (and some other things).

I bought this plastic container from the dollar store.  It use to hold (as you can see) cotton items such as, cotton balls, and sticks.  I dumped those out and filled it with these:

The top closes and it allows for all these little items to have a place with out moving.  It helps them travel very nicely!  (P.S. I also have some correction sticks in there too!)

And there you have it.  What little tips and tricks do you use to pack your makeup for the sake of space and safety?

Tutorial Tuesday - How to apply your Falsies!

Ready for another round of Tutorial Tuesday?  So often I get asked how do I apply my false eyelashes and how do I manage to have them stay on all day long!  There are a couple of variations of how to apply your lashes but this is what works for me.

1.  Put a small glob of eyelash glue on the back of your hand.  Let it sit for one to two minutes to let the glue get a little sticky.

2.  Using a pair of tweezers slide the eyelashes across the glue and let it get even more sticky on the lashes.  I sometimes even blow on them to make the process go a little faster.

3. Still using the tweezers I press the lashes on my lash line starting from the middle working my way outward.

4.  Using the flat end of the tweezers I continue to press along the line to secure the lashes.

5.  Let it set for a few minutes; I usually keep my eyes closed for about a minute.

And Voila! Gorgeous lashes!

In case your wondering I use Mod Lash Demi Whispies for the Most part w/Lash Grip lash adhesive! =)
