Sunday Spotlight - Raellarina

It's time for Sunday Spotlight again! This week we spotlight on Raellarina!

Hello there! I’m Rae, “The Ballerina on Fire” from the Philippines of Raellarina.  I put on my pointes and tiptoed in the world of fashion. I’m an 18-year old interior design student, watercolor painter, graphic artist and writer. I have a slight obsession with boots, vests, caps, accessories, sneakers and dresses. I like to wear vintage, thrifted pieces and hand-me-downs and most of the time I revamp them. Everyday, I’m on the verge of breaking the school uniform rules because I don’t want to look like everybody else.

“RAELLARINA” is a combination of my name “Rae” and who I am for the past 14 years, a “ballerina”.

Today I am going to explain how to wear your boots, vests, & neck ties...the right way!

Living in a tropical country like the Philippines, wearing boots and necktie can sometimes lead to criticisms by the locals. But this must not stop you from wearing what you really love, even if it’s against the “normal” fashion style in your country!

Always remember to wear your boots and your clothes confidently! If people tell you that you dress weird, it’s probably because you’re not confident in wearing your outfit and you let your outfit wear you instead of “you wearing the outfit”. You know what I mean?

And who said you can’t wear something from your dad’s closet or your brothers’? A little experiment and creativity will do! And who knows? People might even imitate your style!

You can pair your boots or boots-look-a-like in any outfit you desire (skirts, shorts, pants, dresses) as long as you don’t over do it and become a fashion mayhem! Vests and Neckties are great statement pieces for boring, plain outfits!

In wearing something that is not normal or “weird” in your place, there’s only one thing to remember: Wear it confidently and wear the best you! I often get criticized with what I wear, especially to my parents and close friends. But the criticisms are fifty-fifty, positive and negative. But the thing is, I don’t really care because this is how I express myself and I’m happy with it. I don’t hurt people with it and that’s what matters. I actually took advantage of it and made my everyday a fashion show because the world is my runway!

Learn to express yourself and be happy with the way you look!
