Motivational Monday - Baby When the Lights Go Out!

So I totally missed Motivational Monday last week...sorry about that.  I don't know if you heard but we had some major storms pass through the east coast where there were numerous power outages...yeah that was me! It was not only awful to have no power, but it was incredibly hot, humid, and horrid.  The positive note is they shut down administrative offices for the local school system I work for.  Why is that positive?  Well, because I work in those administrative offices!  We work 12 months and rarely do we get a day off due to bad weather.  Yeah, you know those snow days when kids are off?  Umm, we don't...we still must trek across the ice and snow and keep the system running...{now that doesn't mean I actually go...that is what my leave is for, ;o)}

Anyway, the days off were a little bright spot in the horrible weather we had last weekend {it carried on throughout the week with 100+ temperatures; I really need to get out of MD}.  I was upset and annoyed to not have any power mostly b/c I couldn't sleep in my bed; it was too damn hot!  Rather than staying in my home we decided to travel around our little town and the one next to us (my  hometown...they are both very small).  I quickly became thankful that the only thing we lost was our power.  The sight of many homes damaged due to the storm was heart breaking.  Not only did they have no power, but they had severe damage due to trees toppling over on to their roofs.  Yes, I am very thankful that power was the only thing we loss.

So this week, although it is not Thanksgiving, I am motivating myself to give thanks all year long.  We so often end our years giving thanks but fail to be thankful during the rest of the year; sometimes when it is more needed.  And, we often only give thanks because someone told us to do so....LAME!  Let's help our neighbors and remind ourselves to be thankful for what we have and remember that someone always has it a little worse than us.

P.S. I was totally singing the FIVE song from back in the day as I typed today's title!  Comment if you know what song I am talking about....gosh I'm getting old!

  1. So true, it is so easy to forget about all the good things around us on a daily basis and focus on the negative.

  2. Oh my goodness power outages in the summer are THE WORST because you just sit there and bake and bake. I lived in Argentina for a time and they would frequently have power outages in 100 degree plus weather. Absolutely miserable! So glad you got through it! Just found your blog and have really enjoyed getting to know you better! I'm excited to follow along!

    1. Thanks Bonnie! I can't imagine living without power in 100+ degree weather over a course of days! That must have been awful! Thanks for commenting!
