Wanna Meet Me??

Guess what?!?!  I'm finally going to be able to make it to a CapFABB meet up.  What is CapFABB??  It stands for Capital Fashion and Beauty Bloggers!  It is a group of bloggers who are based in the DC capital area (DC, MD, & VA).  Every month a meetup is scheduled for us bloggers to get together and mingle with each other.  I have yet, to be able to go, quite frankly I am just to damn busy.  But this weekend I am making a concerted effort to make it!  Especially because CapFABB has teamed up with All Access: Fashion (AAF) to create a special blogger lounge where you can meet me and other area bloggers!

ALL ACCESS: Fashion presented by Tysons Galleria is a three day fashion and trend event that will allow guests to witness the excitement and energy of the international collections at Tysons Galleria, shop the best of the season, meet style icons and experience the frenzy usually reserved for fashion insiders.
For more information about AAF visit their site here.

I will be there Saturday afternoon at the Tysons Galleria in center court!  Hope to meet you there!

Tutorial Tuesday - For Your Brown Eyes!

Today's tutorial is featuring my baby sister, who is gorgeous (in my opinion), but suffers from major redness on her cheeks, and doesn't really like to do her makeup as much as I do. Here is her before:

For Her Skin
  1. I prepped her skin with my Ulta Matte Primer
  2. With my Cover Girl Green Corrector Stick I covered her cheeks and other redness prone areas.  The green correcter stick counteracts with the redness so that it hides it underneath the foundation.
  3. Using a {wet} makeup sponge, I patted  (not smeared) her face with Maybelline FitMe Foundation in 240
  4. Using a loose translucent powder, and a big powder brush, I lightly covered her face to set the liquid foundation

For Her Eyes
  1. I prepped her eyes with Urban Decay's Primer Potion
  2. Using my flat eyeshadow brush I dabbed UD's Bordello in the corners of each eye and bring it 1/3 of the way towards the outer corner of her eye on her lash line
  3. Using my eyeshadow brush I pressed UD's Kush in the middle of her eyes and on the middle bottom of her lash line (so that it mirrors the top)
  4. Using my round {pencil} crease brush I swirled UD's Rockstar in the outer corner of her eyes and working my way in to the crease of her lid.
  5. Using my fluffy crease brush I continued to blend Rockstar to fade the color all the way to the brow bone
  6. Using my angled blender brush I brushed UD's Bordello to blend all the colors to prevent any harsh lines
  7. Using my MAC Eye Kohl liner in Smolder I lined her upper & lower lash lines
  8. Using my Marbella Permanent Eyeliner pen in Black I lined her upper lid with wings on each end
  9. I topped her off with two applications of blinc mascara in Black

Finishing the Face
Cheeks
  • I used Mary Kay creme blush in Sheer Bliss and Mark powder blush in Charmed
Lips
  • I lined her lips with Mac lip pencil in Spice
  • I topped her lips off with Mac lipstick and lipglass in Viva Glam V
Contour/Highlight
  • Contoured with E.L.F. bronzer in Warm Tan
  • Highlighted with Benefit High Beam
Thank you to my awesome sister for letting me play makeover!!

Motivational Monday - Look At Me!

Another Monday is upon us so it is time to be motivated!  Something happened to me last week that made me think about people in general.  Let me give you a little of the story:  A woman {a person who I don't know}, who was extremely pissed at something {I guess it was at me, or my car...not sure which one...maybe both}, threw a cup of ice at my vehicle.  Yes, ICE!  She was also screaming something at me but my window was up and I couldn't hear her through the shock and anger that vibrated through my body!

At first I wanted to follow her and beat the $*#% out of her, but I looked at the clock and realized I didn't want to be late for work.  But, it upset me...the whole freakin' day!  I was mad!  Then I saw this quote:

You must look into people as well as at them. --Lord Chesterfield

The woman and I are both guilty of just looking at each other, not into each other.  I know this is not to be taken literally...but I looked at her as an angry, misfit, trashy @*#&, POS girl who threw ice at my car.  She probably looked at me as a stupid @(&$^ who wouldn't move my car (just know I couldn't go anywhere, which is why I didn't move....she was impatient).  After reading this quote I realized, she must have been late for something important, very upset about something else, etc.  Bottom line, there must have been some underlying cause to her reaction.  At the time I was upset and didn't look into her and her actions but rather let myself get worked up and pissed off at the fact that she committed a crime (in MD at least it is).

Had the woman looked into me she may not had gotten upset.  A co-worker was behind me and witnessed the whole incident.  Apparently, the woman was trying to get my attention for a while and must of thought I was ignoring her, but I am hard of hearing and on days where my Meniere’s disease is truly bothering me (which it was that day), it is hard to hear without looking right at the subject (plus my radio station was on and she didn't use her horn.....)

This week I want to motivate you to look into people you encounter, as well as, at them.  It is amazing how much calmer you feel!

Fashion Friday - Look 4 Le$$

In reading my September issue of Lucky I looked at Eva Longoria and thought two things:

1. Damn she's so freakin' HOT!

-and-

2. I L.O.V.E. (that is LOVE if you didn't get that) her ensemble! It is so classic but sexy!

I read every inch of the magazine and couldn't find anything. So, I'm sure it was hecka expensive and they just didn't want to give credit...who knows. But then it occurred to me.  I could totally try to piece something together!  And this is what I came up with.

Eva Longoria Lucky Mag Look 4 Le$$

Perhaps it will be a new theme?  Maybe once a month during Fashion Friday?  I don't know, but I had a TON of fun coming up with it. Whatever it is I want to duplicate an outfit for less than $100.  Guess what? I totally did here!  So it isn't 100% authentic b/c I couldn't find any metallic shorts like the ones she is wearing but I thought the lacy pair did a good job as the dupe!

Just in case you are wondering where everything came from click the small icon's of the items below the main picture!

What do you think of the look??

High Five For Friday!

YAY!! We totally made it to another Friday!! WHOOP!! WHOOP!!  {read that in a valley girl type voice, it sounds so much more awesome that way...kay?}

Here are my highlights of the week!

1.  Pizza & Beer while mixing cheer music and blogging....sometimes you just need to have one of those nights.

2.  A new recipe I tried out...Chicken Italiana and it was delish, super easy to make, and extremely healthy!  Comment if you want to see it on Tutorial Tuesday!

Photobucket3.  My sisters new pet, a bearded dragon. I find it to be gross and ugly but she loves it and I was curious...just note I refused did not touch it (I'm a wimp...sue me!)

4.  There use to be a deck here!  Remember when I told you on Motivational Monday that there was something my husband & I were working on?  Well, this is my 2012 revolution, to rediscover my backyard! We are putting in a fence, patio, garden, the whole nine yards! Don't worry, I will blog about it!

5.  Registered for my very first CapFABB Meet Up!  Details coming soon on how you can meet me!

So how was your week?  Don't forget to check out the other links from the #H54F link up over at From My Grey Desk w/Lauren!

Tutorial Tuesday - Easy Breezy "Collared" Girl (or Boy if you want)

Like the pun??  Haha! Okay, today's tutorial is so freakin' easy, you can seriously do it on your lunch break, or while you pop a pizza in the oven!  SO EASY!!

What you need:

  • Large fun beads, or anything that will inspire your collar
  • A sewing needle
  • Thread to match the fabric of your collar
  • A shirt with a collar (obviously!)

  1. Thread your needle; doubling it up and triple knotting the bottom (or double if you choose thicker thread)
  2. Place the bead at the corner of the collar and start sewing from underneath your collar through the bead and back through again; slightly underneath the bead (to hid the thread)
  3. Follow the same pattern three times, keeping the thread tight
  4. Tie it off & you are DONE!  That's right DONE!!
I seriously want to do this to so many of my collars!

Motivational Monday - I need a Break

From myself that is!  I love blogging way to much to break from it.  I find this blog to be my ventilation system; and thank goodness for that because otherwise I might explode!

Do you ever just need a break from yourself?  I had the roughest week at work last week....um yeah computer systems not working right, being short staffed, the usual. Then, just other issues with trying to be helpful and doing too many things all at once.  You know sometimes, I just think I am superwoman and can do it all...when in reality I can't. I need to learn to pace myself.  Anyone else out there like that?  or I am I just alone in my craziness.

Anyway, my husband and I are doing renovations to our home (check out my H54F post that will be up on Friday to see what we are doing!), plus coaching sports, plus being the taxi driver to our girls, plus being parents, sister/brother, daughter/son...etc.  You get the picture?  This week I am motivating myself to take one day at a time and be okay with not finishing everything, or not being able to be there for every little thing. I am thankful I am able to do so much but I am tired and I need to focus a little bit.

I may take some extra time and immerse myself in to a book or fold laundry or just simply take a personal day!  You should too!

Fashion Friday - Cindy's Shoes

Have you heard about these?  You now can be Cinderella....like legit! Without spending a TON of money on Christian Louboutin's or Marc Jacobs!  DSW has now come out with the Glass Slipper Collection made specifically with Disney's Cinderella in mind.  They aren't going to cost a ton of money either!  $59.95-$89.95!  I'd totally purchase that's for sure!  I love the idea and now you truly can be Cindy!  DSW will start selling them October 1st, apparently to coincide with the re-release of the movie!

What do you guys think?  Possible future purchase?

High Five For Friday!

Yay! It's Friday! Would you believe I seriously have something to do every stinkin' day of the week?  How the heck did this happen??  I went from being busy b/c of school to being even more busy now that I am done! PHEW!  Oh Well!?!

1.  Seeing my little beauty perform poms for the first time....EVER!  So fun and exciting. {Apparently this weekend she is front row, center, doing an extension all by herself!  *This proud mama has a HUGE smile on her face as she types this!*}

Photobucket2. My closets' new best friend!

3. This face loves me so much...even if I don't have as much time to run with him right now.

4. Realizing that I can now download my magazine subscriptions to my tablet!  {P.S. this is totally a new feature they added for current paper subscribers...and I am not late jumping on the bandwagon...just sayin' haha!}

5. The simple fact that it IS Friday. (It has been one hell of a week at work!)

How was your week?

Remembering 9/11

I want to pause briefly from the Highlight posts of New York's Fashion Week and remember the horror, we as a nation, witnessed 11 years ago today and pray for continued peace among the world.  I will never forget the day that has changed our nation forever.

My daughter will never know what it is like to not have to take off your shoes at the airport; among many other changes that my generation know and understand.  She will never understand how it is that I am able to name the place, what I was wearing, and how sickened I truly felt at the sight of seeing the towers, and closer to home, the pentagon, and flight 93.  It is my hope that she will never have to feel or understand that.

Today I want us to remember the day that lost so many and pray for those victims but more importantly lets remember to be kind to one another.

God Bless the U.S. and each and everyone in the world!

Highlights from Day 5 will be up later today.
